I AM AN ARTIST
A sincere man, a man consistent with his feelings and the few words he spoke, this was Antonio Ligabue.
The painter from Gualtieri was a different creature from the many
who only know how to pour out an abundance of sounds and “manure” without giving anything of themselves.
Ligabue was frank.
Ligabue was a great sculptor and an original painter of fine talent, he was defined
the painter of nature and animals.
If there are no animals in a painting,
the painting is not serious, he said.
Ligabue loved all the creatures that lived around him, he cried for them, curled up and alone, on the banks of the Po, when during the hunting months these creatures lost their lives due to the heavy biological arrogance of men,
of the usual "few" men.
I know that Danny Bignotti, a courageous actor, with whom I have been on this journey around Ligabue's plains, loves and is touched by the grace and delicacy of this outcast from the Po River. It is a rare privilege to be able to work with him on this poetic and human theatrical act.
